30's cards Empty 30's cards

Post by bowlingshoeguy Mon May 02, 2011 1:29 am

I have never really followed the 30's cards much except the commons ones, Goudey and Diamond Stars and I know of a few others.

My question is what others were issued and how do they rank in toughness?

Among the toughest are Delongs and George C Millers. !941 Goudeys are fairly uncommon and a master set is very tough. Another tough set, but very ugly is the r337 Eclipse. This is the set with the Ruth card that looks like a gorilla.

Of the colored cards, I would rank as difficult the George C. Millers, Uncle Jacks and American Caramel--all moreso than Delong. Of lesser difficulty but also really cool is the Tattoo Orbit set. R312 Color tints and '35 Goudeys come next in my book for attractiveness, and then as Jay said there are the r337 Eclipse Imports, along with Schutter Johnson "tips". You like color?-the Wheaties cereal box cards offer a challenge, especially in nice shape, at an affordable price. The '38 Goudeys have a loyal following too.

Of the black and white issues, Butter Cream and Worch Cigar are probably the toughest, along with 1931 W502s (they look like the ice cream sets). The '36 Goudeys are underrated in my opinion--a nice set--- as are the Batter-ups, which are tinted. W517s are not tough and are also nice. The fine pens, wide pens, Gold Medal Flours and Premiums--Goudey, r311 Glossy/leather finish and Butterfinger come next.

There are also some lesser sets like the Wheaties Minneapolis Millers and Rice Stix (2 cards, Dizzy and Daffy) and more that I'm probably forgetting. All in all a wide variety for sure.

The 30's also has Exhibit 4 on 1's and Salutations. A few of those sets (1931-32, 33, 38, and 39-46 Sal SP's) are very hard to come by. Some of my favorite cards are from these sets-
