Award refurbishing question

Post by lentel on Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:50 pm

I recently won an award silver tray and set of 9 glasses(gobbets). Anyway there are a couple of scratches , dings and some permanent tarnish. I was thinking of having it repaired and resilvered but it has some signifigance. Will refurbishing it devalue it or will it make it worth more. I just like things on display cleaned up. I hope i posted this in the correct area.
Any advice or help is appreciated.

I know next to nothing about vintage trophies, but I don't think restoring things like that is nearly as "taboo" as restoring cards. Someone else will have more useful advice than what I can offer though.

Out of curiousity, do you have a pic of the items?

Definitely something to take to high end antiques dealer and find out what they have to say. As Ben mentioned, restoration is not a taboo thing for furniture and service wear, although unrestored is the preferred condition.

Here are the pictures. This is not prewar but vintage and something I thought was cool. Lew Burdette no hit presentation tray and glasses from braves owner The glasses have the inning summary for each no hit inning.

My wife thinks I am crazy.

I know nothing about antiques, or silver, or anything really.
But, looking at this, somethine in my head just seems to say "don't touch it." Not sure if that helps. Maybe I'm just schizophrenic?

Ok Vickram, hope you enjoyed your short stay here.

We've had a few spammers register lately....they come on the forum, copy/paste something that was previously said in the thread, and include some spam sites in the sig line (in this case, crotchless panties and prom dress)

These spammers are usually easy to spot, but in case the admins miss something, just send a pm to myself, Jay, or Mark and we'll take care of it.

I heard a pretty good joke involving crotchless panties. Probably not the right place for such a joke though, even if this IS the "anything goes" thread section.
