Carl Horner Cabinets Empty Carl Horner Cabinets

Post by the-illini Wed Jun 11, 2008 5:50 pm

These are pretty interesting cabinets. I was hoping someone could fill me in on some details? Here's a scan of my Horner Cabinet of Brain, next to the Magee currently on ebay - very nice! Notice the differences in mount styles. And I've seen others. How many variations are there? If you have any Horners in your collection, please post them.

Also, the checklist seems incomplete. Any additional info on that?

This piece was consigned to Mastro's August auction by another collector and I. The condition of the cabinet is near perfect with very few imperfections. The great bonus to the piece is that it is accompanied by it's orignal wax paper wrapper from Horner's studio, the first i've ever seen.

What a great Cabinet, Thank God for Mr. Horner, huh. Without him we would be living in a much different baseball card world. There were some Horners sold by REA or Mastro awhile back (1or2 yrs ago), that I still haven't got over. There was a Speaker that still haunts me. These are some true Gems of the Hobby IMO

Interesting thread. Zach, that Horner cabinet is a real beauty. So are the other two posted by Chris. It looks like all three have different mount designs. And I've seen a fourth style with snow white borders. Are there any other variations to report?

And about the checklist - how many HOFers are known to exist? Jerry mentioned a Speaker, and I've seen a Joss before. Who else?

Here's a scan of a Horner cabinet of Dan McGann that was in the B&L auction (ended at $908 before juice).

The Horner cabinets are really tough to find in good condition. The cabinet Zach has above is really probably about the best I've seen. Also, the dark mount is something tougher to find with them for some reason.

jerry u should've grabbed that horner speaker for reals...excellent photo just some restoration. i guess sgc/psa is starting to grade these, watch for the price to blow through the roof like the other large cards t3s/w600s/t5s/JKAs. i missed the boat again and sold all my cabs too early several years back.

This Bates is one of two Horners in the current Goodwin auction (I have no affiliation with either!) I believe the McGann shown a few posts above is the other card being auctioned. I'd love to see scans of some HOFer Horner cabinets too Carl Horner Cabinets 601991 Just love the look of these. Anyone have any other scans to share?

Carl Horner Cabinets Empty We've given up on a "checklist"

Post by aupt Sun Jan 24, 2010 3:56 pm

For many years I tried to maintain a "checklist" of Horner cabinets in the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, but I'm dropping the effort for the 2011 edition. We'll just list "Commons" and "Hall of Famers," along with perhaps a few of the biggest stars individually.

There are just too many cabinets in too many mount styles to try to be comprehensive in listing them. Also, the lack of player identification can be a problem.
