Seems like sound choices to me. It's gonna be a damn cold game in GB which might hurt the style of game they are used to playing and the will be a lot closer than people think.

Prediction... Empty Tough game for Pats...

Post by Square_Frame_Ramly Mon Jan 21, 2008 12:53 am

Chargers came out fighting!!! Pats now need to win 1 more game to become possibly the best team in history of football.

Brady played horrible but i think they needed a game like this. Now they are ready!!!

It would interesting to see the 72 Dolphins against these Pats. The Dolphins would grind you to death with two 1000 yard running backs, and that was in a 14 game season. Then you had the deep threat in Paul Warfield. Not sure teh No Name Defense could keep up with Moss and Brady though.

The Giants now know that they can beat the Patriots.
So, Im looking for big things from them now.

But actually I think that Dallas, GB or NY would do equally well in a matchup with the New England Patriots. But I sure do agree that they have a heckofa record on paper.

I don't think it's going to be that close the second time around. New England wants to put an exclamation point on this season and I would be surprised to see the Pats run up the score. I would be surprised if they set a goal of trying to top the 76 points scored in a championship game.

Gil, though I am a Cowboys fan, I truly believe the Giants will win the Super Bowl. They are more healthy now than they were when the Pats pulled off a 3-point win. Plus, they won't be playing at home - which is great for them. beer

Jay - I hate to burst your bubble, but I don't see anyone scoring that many points against a very tough Giants defense. The Giants are more confident than ever now - on offense, defense and special teams. Beating the Pack at home with the temp. below zero is simply amazing! bow

Giants - 38
Patriots - 24

I doubt they will get close to 76 points. I said I can see them setting it as a goal and wouldn't be above them to run up the score as much as possible.

Mark

I'll agree with the Pats winning the superbowl, but I will have to disagree with two of your points Very Happy

1) I don't think it will be that much of a blowout. I think the Giants will play them tough. The Pats have really squeeked out games, over the last couple.

2) I think that most of the nation hates the Pats, due to Coach B. Most of the fans there will be Giants fans, or anyone else playing the pats for that matter. They've become the Yankees of football.

But we'll see. I personally hate the Pats, but like Brady....because he played at U of Michigan.

Post by scott elkins Mon Jan 21, 2008 6:37 pm

Eric brings up some good points. I try to like the Pats somewhat b/c that is Mark's favorite team, and Mark is a great guy whom I really like. However, TBH, I have hated the Pats since the controversial game where they beat the Raiders on a very controversial call and went on to win the Super Bowl. Plus, like Eric mentioned, like the rest of the country (other than Pats fans of course), I really don't like their coach at all. mallet So, even as much as a loyal Cowboys fan should be rooting against the Giants in the Super Bowl, I am actually rooting for them to win.

I would hate to see the Pats win and hear their coach's two minute answer session after the game where he actually "snubs" people asking questions with his short answers. Coaches interviews are so much more memorable when they are like the ones used on the Coors Light commercials beer - where the coaches are emotional and don't look down upon the questions and the interviewers.

Even with me rooting for the Giants in the Super Bowl, I will be happy for Mark should his Patriots win and finish off the "Dream Season".

A lot of the reasons people root for teams have underlying causes as well. During the 70's, a lot of hard-working Americans rooted for the Steelers, b/c they felt the Steelers stood for the values of hard-working Americans and were the "underdog" to the more popular Cowboys (until they beat the Cowboys in two Super Bowls in the 70's that is!). The same socio-economic standards are probably the reason many hate the Patriots and their "Perfect Season". Afterall, when some think of New England, they might think of the "Blue Bloods" of Boston and how some of these families with "Old Money" think they are "perfect" :king: , like the Pats and their "Perfect Season". These socio-economic underlyings probably aren't given much thought by people rooting against certain teams, as they were in the 70's with the Steelers, but they might have some effect on people's choice of a team and why so many people pull for the underdog, without these people even knowing it! geek

Plus - here is a game where the Pats bent the rules and nobody mentions these days - Anyone remember the infamous "Snow Plow Game" of the 1980's? Where the Pats ran a snow plow onto the field during a timeout to clear off a spot for the kicker, who went on to kick a winning field goal in a blizzard?????

And one other thing that was big news this year. Spygate.....when the Pats got caught stealing signals from the Jets sidelines by videotaping defensive calls.

It is natural for fans to hate teams who are doing so good as the Pats are.

It seems when a team like New England does so good people tend to forget how horrible they were in the past. I have stuck with the Pats since their first Super Bowl against Chicago. It took them many years to get where they are now.

The thing is, New England has been playing horrible the last few games but end up winning. Great teams always find a way to win. They will be well rested for the Super Bowl and Brady wants perfection. He looked so mad yesterday at the way they were playing. The defense ended up winning the game for them. Pats stopped them many times near the goal and Chargers settled for 4 field goals the whole game.

About the incident of filming, they got what they deserved with the fines (big $ fines) and from what i hear the Jets did the same thing in the past with permission from the Pats. They are not undefeated because of that one incident, and i agree it was the dumbest thing they could ever do. They did not need to do that.

Look at your pre-war football cards.
How many Denver Broncos are there?
Raiders? 49ers? Dolphins? Cowboys?
The Packers are there, and the Lions.
Steelers, Giants and Bears too.
Cardinals, Colts and more,
but no Pats, Jets, and more.
And that is another reason that some old timers don't care for or about anything to do with the AFL, nor expansion teams. Old coots don't accept change well. So, out with the coots Exclamation

Patriots 3

Gil, shouldn't that be the Beaneaters instead of Pats? Razz

For me, the whole videotape thing is a huge nonissue, just like steroids. Everyone does it. They just happened to get caught. Teams cheat. Players cheat. They always have. They always will. As long someone isn't doing something that significantly alters the outcome of a game, it's really not that big a deal.

Seems like the experts pick the Patriots by 12.
Interesting.
The Giants have beaten the spread 10 out of their last 10 games.
The Pats have failed to cover their spread 8 of their last 10 games.
Im sticking with my prediction that the game will be all D.

to watch....Manning and Brady were not on their game. It was the defense of both teams that made the game. I think Brady hurt his arm on one of the sacks early because he did not throw good at all.

I tried several websites before the game to deposit money - even my old faithful BoDog. However, none let you deposit money directly from your bank account now, like you could in the past. I was going to put $500 on the Giants at +340 to win. This cost me $1700!!! I could have bought a Uzit with that Money! frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated

Yes....The U.S. Government put a stop to banks allowing overseas transactions like the gambling web sites. Most of these sites like Bodog are in countries with no regulations. The U.S. could not make gamblers pay taxes so of course they made it so no U.S. bank would allow you to do this. Mark, I remember when this crappy legislation was passed now. I believe it was just before last year's Super Bowl. I know I couldn't get my winnings from the Playoffs transferred to my bank account (had to pick them up at Western Union) like I had all season long (when BoDog would transfer funds directly into my account).

This cost me money last year. After picking every winner in the Playoffs and going over 75% ATS during the regular season, I was ready to get some more winnings and let the rest of the $ in my account go on the Colts. I was thinking something might be "passed" by the Govt. and I wouldn't get my money after having to get the Western Union transfer instead of the usual - winnings going to my bank account. I then took all my remaining money from my BoDog account and did NOT bet on the Super Bowl (which I would have won another grand at the time!). Crying or Very sad

Earlier this year, I had the same bad luck trying to transfer $ from my bank account to an online account (and I tried over a dozen). I thought the laws might have been "laxed" for the Super Bowl, since MILLIONS of people bet on it. I found out yesterday the laws are still the same unfortunately. I should have known this would happen when I was on a roll (last year and this year) picking winners by the spread! These winning seasons go in cycles (as well as the losing seasons) - watch, the govt. will find a way to tax this money and make it easy to gamble, then I will be on a losing streak! Sad

So Mark, if you were betting yesterday, even though you area Pats fan, would you have taken the Giants and those 11 1/2 points? I know, while I was following the playoffs, I put down the Giants PLUS the points over Dallas (even though I am a huge Cowboys fan). If I were betting on that one, I would have taken the Giants and the points against Dallas.

I know that Pats have not covered the pread in a while. They always run up the point spread for patriots. I would have taken the 11 1/2 points, i thought that the pats would win by 3 or 7 but not 11 1/2.
