Baseball bats
Is just me or is about time that MLB came up with new rules regarding bats? There must be 10 or more broken bats every game, several which shatter into pieces. I'm guessing that MLB won't do anything about it until someone, player, ump or fan gets one of these shards embedded in their eye.
The simplest solution is to require a minimum thickness to the handle. That way you won't see so many shattered bats. The theory is that the thin handle helps create a whip effect generating more power. Studies have already been done to disprove this, but athletes have never let science get in the way of their beliefs. If Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx et al can hit 50+ HRs a season with thick 40+ ounce bats, then today's bigger, stronger players should be able to easily hit that many or more with the same type bat.
Here's hoping something gets done before someone loses an eye or worse.
