Anyone ever even hear of this statistic?

Post by TheRiddler on Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:05 pm

Most HBP, pitcher, while batting.

That is, most times getting hit by the ball when batting, for a pitcher.

I was thinking: career record. But I will take anything, especially where to look next.

I spent some time looking this one up. I can't say with 100% certainty, but taking longevity, at bats, and reputation for being a "head-hunter" (retaliation factors), the answer I came up with is Eddie Plank with 24 times hit by pitch. Also to say, that I disqualified pitcher/postion players (Ruth, Hecker, Joe Wood, etc.)

That looks like a good call to me. Twenty four is a lot more than most 50% position/pitcher players.
