New Discovery of 17 M131 Baltimore Newsboy Cards E94 like

Post by r337man on Tue Jan 15, 2008 9:42 am

Unfortunately I missed the boat on this one but a very good friend of mine scored 17 M131 Baltimore Newsboy E94 like cards. I believe there is a Cobb included. He shipped them all off to PSA ugh! not SGC against my better judgement. They should be hitting ebay within the next 8 weeks or so. It should cause a feeding frenzy!

From what I gathered, these were in a family since they were originally acquired back in 1910 or so. My friend was hired to sell them I believe. He first notified me of them a year ago. I can't wait to see them myself!

Wow Dan,

I love to hear about new to the hobby finds like this!

Any idea on the condition of the group? They are generally pretty tough to come by in anything better than good condition.

It will be interesting to see where the prices go as this example cost me an arm and a leg and it is only a common.

Thanks for sharing this information. The last large group of approximately a dozen M131s was sold as a group by Dave Levin a few years ago, but that group did not contain Cobb. This group is going to create a frenzy on ebay.

Hey as you know condition is meaningless to me Scott as a true collector but if I understood, the best was a VG 3 expected. Good luck with this frenzy guys, I am sure it will do well, Dan.

Hi Dan,

Hopefully you know that I am not hung up on conditions or grades on the slab either. I have plenty of SGC Authentic and SGC 10 graded cards in my collection. I still also have plenty of raw cards in my collection too, as you know.

I was just curious about the condition because I know that it is a very tough issue conditionwise.

The M131s are so tough that you take them in any condition that you can find them. Congratulations to your friend and I am sure they will do well with them!

Scott

Scott you wasted key strokes my friend. You are as good as it gets and I am well aware that you are on the exact same playing field as I am. Spending time at your house with all of those great people was a very special time for me, I really enjoyed it! Dan.

Just saw scans of the cards, 3 Lajoie's a Cobb, a Cicotte and a WAGNER! huge coinage here and should be fun. Good Luck to all! I am guessing a few may come back VG/EX but nothing higher. Dan.

Dan, this is amazing! The Cobb and Cicotte sound like winners (to me at least). I was the underbidder on the Cobb with the writing on front Lipset auctioned off a few years back. I just could not get over the ugly writing to bid any higher at the time. However, with prices on rare cards of late, I will be out of the race on the first day when these are auctioned. No
