Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
I was talking about your Baird, but you answered my question anyway. He doesn't appear in m101-4 set.

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Todd, would you say that of all the M101-4/5 Backs, Famous & Barr would be a set one could complete. I wouldn't think you could complete any other backs besides Blank & SN.

yes Jerry
the F&Bs are the most common of the backs, not that they're all that common. I would think that the set could be completed, but it would be very, very difficult, costly and time consuming. You are looking at a Ruth rookie after all, plus a Thorpe, and Shoeless Joe won't be cheap either.
The quirky thing about it is that you would have a hybrid set--20 m101-4s and 180 m101-5s. Not that big a deal I suppose, especially since the first 7 cards are essentially identical. You'd get Bender instead of Bresnahan, and you'd miss out on Cobb, but it would be one awesome set. Thinking about going for it Jerry?

If I was 20yrs younger and had more disposable income, maybe. When your 60 you don't think long term much. (Insert smiley with a cane)
Furthermore, I haven't seen one F&B card for sale in months except for a couple HOFers with very, lets just say, overly optimistic BIN Prices.

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Jerry - If you're seriously interested in them, we can discuss, but know that the last SGC 80 F&B HOFer sold for $780 + S&H and that was a case where the player had other M101-5s graded higher with other backs; by SGC's pop report, the SGC 80 Marquard is his highest graded M101-5 with any back.
$250 for the Faber RC I think is more then reasonable for a tough HOFer RC with nice eye appeal.

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Matt, sorry if I offened you, I was just making a general statement about BIN prices on ebay which people do everyday. There are a few F&B hofers on ebay with BIN prices.

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Jerry - you said above you thought the prices were too high - that's what I was commenting on; no offense taken.
As you know, I've got a "Best Offer" option up there - you could just as easily submit an offer as you've done in the past.

Hey Jerry and Matt, hope you guys work something out, but it seems like PM's might be a better place for the rest of that convo. Cheers.
Back to the topic....I realize F&B is a common M101-5 back, but how does it rank in scarcity as a M101-4 back?

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Ben, Your Right
Sorry about that.
Back to the cards, According to Tim & Todd's great Old Cardboard article, Famous & Barr M101-4's are 10 times as rare as M101-5's. 10% of Famous & Barr's are M101-5's

Thanks for the info Jerry. I assume you meant that 10% of Famous & Barr's are M101-4's?

The stamp of Lester O'Brien seems familiar, like I might have owned a T206 with that same stamp. Sounds like an idea for a new thread.

Re: My Famous & Barr Commons
Since were on the subject of M101's, I'd like to expand this thread to include more info about some of the other backs found on this great set.
According to Todd's very informative article in Old Cardboard, there are 3 backs that show pressure lines. They are Atoona Tribune, Burgess-Nash & Ware's Basement.
So, a Type Back collector will not find these particular Backs in high grade.
I wonder if Todd or anybody has a theory why these particular cards have these pressure lines.
If it was done at the factory, why do none of the other backs show this defect.
Could it have been the way they were packaged for shipment?
Anyway, if you have any of these 3 backs in your collection, Please show them.
My only one and it's not even here yet

The reason it seems so familiar is because it comes from the same collection that I got my Thorpe from. All the m101-5s I used to own had that stamp on the back.
