Is anyone else superstitious...

Post  Bosox Blair on Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:51 pm

...I have this thing where I won't post in a monthly pick-up thread any scans of cards I've won in auctions or purchased from a Board member until I have the card(s) in hand. I have this fear of jinxing the delivery...am I alone?

(Maybe it is all these years of cheering for the Red Sox...Curse of the Postino? )

I did that once (posted a link to a card I won on ebay that I did not have in hand) and the card mysteriously got lost in the mail. The seller promptly refunded me my money and I was left without the card thinking that somebody (on another board) contacted the seller and offered him more money for it. Without proof and my refund I chalked it up to another lesson learned.

I won't post a pic either until it's in hand (most of the time). Unless it's from an auction house, then it's basically guaranteed, so I find that OK to post.

I wouldn't even call that a superstition. On the other hand, I very, very rarely open packages the day they arrive. I've let some cards marinate for a week or more inside the parcel, as I'm quite sure it improves their condition.

I am not sure if this counts as a superstition...
I live with my girlfriend and get home from work before her. I open packages, scan the cards then put them away before she sees them. This way I don't have to hear, "Spending more money on stupid baseball cards," etc., etc......

That's not superstition, that's just being smart and staying one step ahead of the boss.

I think I've only posted scans of a card once before I got them and was only because they were coming from a very reliable source.

Thanks for the replies, guys...good to know I'm not alone in this. Truthfully, I've never even thought about the seller pulling any monkey business (I like to believe I only buy from reputable people) - I'm always afraid of the delivery service screwing up.
