Wiki for cards?

Post  cmoking on Tue Jul 21, 2009 4:41 pm

I've seen a few "Wikis" for a variety of subjects - including Lost,
Star Wars and sabermetrics, here's the Star Wars example: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

I'm wondering if people think it would be
a hit to have it for our hobby? or maybe one already exists? My initial look into it, it seems pretty cheap to start and maintain.

good idea for one of the auction houses to undertake...a regular/new collector (less than 5 years) wouldn't care or know enough and a hardcore guy would probably not want to share the knowledge or don't have the time.

Wookieepedia.....wow, I'm sure the creator of that site is a big hit with the ladies Rolling Eyes

Sure, the same sort of thing could be done for prewar cards, but what could it have that Old Cardboard doesn't already offer?

Here is Old Cardboard's page on the 1933 Goudey set.

You don't think the hobby can add to that information?
Old Cardboard is a fine site to check a few things, but it does not go into any detail that collectors may be interested in.

    Point taken.

OC is a great resource, but not the place you'd look for detailed writeups on various prewar sets.

One of the reason we created the virtual set area is for collectors to post cards from various set and do write ups on the set. It's not a true wiki type thing, but it's better than nothing.

You'll find it by clicking on the "Helpful Information for Collectors" section. Anyone can start a profile for a set of their choosing, and people can add to it as they please. Some good posts in there already and there's always room for more.

    hey guys,

great work, totally forgot about that section! keep meaning to add a caramel set or 2 to it but over the past couple years i've really slacked so forgotten about most of the little details that make up those sets.

this board maybe small but still pack a little punch mallet

if these various people would pool together and put their knowledge down on a 19th cent-late 20's era book i'd buy it:

oldjudge, sloate, olbermann, petecld, wojak jr, macrae, reader, brockelman, cornell, weisner, nolemmings, andy baran...(sorry to all the post 30's and non-sports people)

Hey Quan, I haven't heard that name in a while, is Andy still collecting? He's is a great guy and was a regular in the chatroom back in the Elliot/Bill C. days of net54. Hope he is doing well.
