Dusted off the old Ken Burns "Baseball" set the other day and watched the first few. Really enjoyed seeing these again.

I learned the other day that there is another set of World Series videos out - 20 discs.

Besides those, can anyone recommend any baseball DVDs, especially with pre-war content. (Not movies about baseball with actors - I already have most of those covered I think).

I had never heard of this guy before I was reading some stuff last night. I guess about the only thing this guy did not play was baseball .

He won 2 Stanley Cups as the goaltender for Ottawa, and as a result he is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. But he retired from hockey to focus on lacrosse, leading his Ottawa team to 2 Minto Cup championships. Oh, and in between, as a fullback, he took the Ottawa Roughriders to a Canadian Football championship.

anyone else see the list of candidates? They are only voting on managers, umps and execs. The one person on the list that needs to get in is Marvin Miller. The surprise on the list, but really shouldn't be, is Tom Kelley. He won two titles with teams that were far less talented than many others out there. A lot managers with lots more talent available were unable to win titles. I'd love to see him get in. Some of that the homer sentiment in me, but he really does deserve it regardless if he is ...

We have finished the National Association era.

And have progressed into the National League to the point that Dan Brouthers is an untried rookie. (1879).

As you probally know or don't know, I put my Card collecting on hold while I'm concentrating on my other hobby of metal detecting. I just thought I would tell you about a find I made the otherday

I am hunting the back yard of an old house that was built in the 1890's and apparantly one of the owners was a Civil War Confederate Veteran. Because I dug a 1895 United Confederate Veterans Reunion badge then a couple days later this confederate snake belt buckle pops up from over a 100yrs ...

I have found it curious that a player that pitches a no-hitter with the only base runners being errors, that it is not considered a perfect game. Heck, the guy actually got more guys out in these games than what is considered a perfect game. The pitcher just made up for something that was not his fault, gets 28 outs and doesn't get the same credit as a guy who gets 27 outs.

That's my beef of the day,

I don't know if many of you know that for a very long time, you were not allowed to play baseball on Sunday. The first MLB game on a Sunday was in 1917 in New York. John Mcgraw and starting pitcher Christy Mathewson were both arrested at the conclusion of the game. By 1919 every team but the two in Philadelphia were allowed to play on Sunday. It was 1931 before the laws were changed to allow them to play on Sunday.
